I feel this service is as important today as the encyclopedia was in the the 1960’s when I was a kid.
When digital materials are at risk of sudden removal, our collective memory is compromised, and the public’s ability to access its history is endangered.
Due to legal battles and business models, traditional works are facing hurdles to reaching the Internet, and our born-digital heritage is also facing neglect.
To address this ongoing deterioration, we released the Vanishing Culture Report. This study highlights instances of cultural loss and underscores the vital role that libraries and archives play in preserving materials for future generations.
As corporate decision-makers exert increasing control over online content, libraries like the Internet Archive serve as guardians of our collective digital culture—ensuring its preservation and accessibility for future generations.
We believe that our collections should always be free for everyone, so we don’t charge for access, sell user data, or run ads. If you find these services useful, consider donating to help us preserve the digital library we deserve. We understand if you can’t afford to contribute, but we promise it will be well spent if you can. Together, we can continue advancing Universal Access to All Knowledge.
