<![if !vml]>![]() THE SILVER BAYONET: The Carpathians Castle Fier Supplement for The Silver Bayonet: A Wargame of Napoleonic Gothic Horror, in which the special units must fight their way through the ruins of a menacing haunted castle. It features two campaigns – one competitive and one for solo or cooperative play – as well as new monsters to fight, soldiers to recruit, and treasure to unearth. High in the Carpathian Mountains stands the crumbling Castle Fier. Once home to a powerful warlord, the castle cast a dark shadow across the nearby villages, until crusaders attacked with sword and flame to put an end to its menace. Though history passed into folklore, the ruins of Castle Fier remained shunned by all as a cursed site. Now, horrors have been seen moving at night. An army gathers. Something has awoken in the ruins. With the political situation in the surrounding region becoming increasingly unstable, France, Prussia, Britain, and the other powers have dispatched their best agents to investigate the ruins, eliminate any threats, and acquire any treasures that could prove useful in the ongoing fight against the harvestmen. and each other. 1 vol, 64 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$25.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $21.25 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() 073 BYZANTINE CAVALRYMAN vs VANDAL WARRIOR: North Africa AD 533-36 In AD 533, the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I launched the first of his campaigns to reconquer the Western Roman Empire. This effort began in North Africa (modern Algeria and Tunisia), targeting the Vandal kingdom established there a century earlier, which also included Sardinia, Corsica and the Balearic Islands. Featuring full-color artwork and mapping alongside carefully chosen archive illustrations, this book shows how the Byzantine general Belisarius established his formidable reputation in the lightning-fast campaign that ensued, exploring the origins, tactics and reputation of the two sides’ forces as they fought for control of North Africa. The landing of Belisarius’ forces took the Vandal king, Gelimer, completely by surprise; in September 533 the two sides met in battle near Carthage in an encounter known to posterity as Ad Decimum, with Gelimer ambitiously attempting to trap Belisarius’ forces as they advanced. In December, the two sides fought again in a momentous clash at Tricamarum, where the fate of Gelimer’s regime would be determined. A third battle ensued in 536, when the rebel Stotzas’ Byzantine and Vandal troops confronted Belisarius’ forces, the outcome sealing the Byzantine general’s standing as the foremost soldier of his age. 1 vol, 80 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$23.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $19.55 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() 148 THE NAKAJIMA Ki-49 DONRYU The Nakajima Ki-49 Donryu (‘Dragon Eater’), codenamed ‘Helen’ by the Allies, was a twin-engined Japanese bomber designed to undertake daylight attacks without the protection of escort fighters. Consequently, while it was officially known as the Army Type 100 Heavy Bomber, its formidable defensive armament and armour were so heavy that they restricted the Ki-49 to payloads comparable to those of smaller medium bombers. While only five heavy bomber sentai (regiments) were equipped with the ‘Helen’, over 800 Ki-49s built between 1941 and 1944 saw extensive action in Burma, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, northern India and north Australia. In an act of desperation, a small number of ‘Helens’ were even employed, unsuccessfully, as kamikaze aircraft against US Navy warships operating off the Philippines and Okinawa. 1 vol, 96 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$25.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $21.25 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() 149 BF 109 JABO UNITS IN THE WEST Drawing from pilots’ first-hand accounts, explores a number of specialized units, including Lehrgeschwader 2 and dedicated fighter-bomber sections of standard fighter units such as 10. Staffel of Jagdgeschwader 26, which flew this highly specialised fighter-bomber. Including technical specifications, rare photographs, and outstanding artwork, this book explores the Jabo versions of the Bf 109E, F, and G both on the production line and with the addition of Rustsatze field conversion kits. One of the principal types in the Luftwaffe’s inventory at the beginning of World War II, the piston-engined Bf 109 was central to the many initial victories that the Germans achieved before coming up against the unbeatable RAF during the Battle of Britain. Nevertheless, by the second half of 1940 the Bf 109’s operability was widened due to operational needs and it was flown as a fighter-bomber for precision attacks in Southern England. At first ad hoc conversions were made ‘in the field’ to allow the aircraft to carry a bomb or extra fuel tank. Such modifications were soon formalized by Messerschmitt, which created the Jabo Bf 109s. 1 vol, 96 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$25.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $21.25 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() 318 TANKS IN OPERATION BAGRATION 1944: The Demolition of Army Group Center Uses new photos and color illustrations to explain tank camouflage and markings as well as how the tanks and AFVs on both sides contributed to the eventual defeat of Army Group Center during Operation Bagration — the 1944 summer campaign on the Russian Front. The Red Army had embarked on a major tank modernization after the Kursk battles of 1943 and as a result, Operation Bagration saw the first widespread use of T-34-85 and IS-2 tanks as well as self-propelled guns. Germany’s Panther tank finally reached technical maturity in the summer of 1944 but small numbers weakened its battlefield impact, while other innovations such as the Tiger II heavy tank failed to leave their mark. The operation involved substantial tank and armored vehicles on both sides but the German forces were severely hampered by the transfer of dozens of Panzer divisions to France to repel an expected Allied invasion. Forced to make hard decisions, German tank forces in the central Belarus sector were weak compared to the heavy concentration of Panzers in northern Ukraine. The Red Army exploited this vulnerability, crushing Army Group Center, and pushing beyond the Soviet frontier into Poland and East Prussia. With this crucial victory secured, the Red Army conducted successive offensives beyond the Carpathian Mountains, arriving at the Vistula river in Poland, and forcing Romania to switch sides. 1 vol, 48 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$20.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $17.00 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() 389 The HYDASPES 326 BC: The Limit of Alexander the Great’s Conquests In the years that followed Alexander the Great’s victory at Gaugamela on 1 October 331 BC, his Macedonian and Greek army fought a truly ‘Herculean’ series of campaigns in what is today Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. But it was in the Indus Valley, on the banks of the Hydaspes River (known today as the Jhelum) in 326 BC that Alexander would fight his last major battle against King Poros. Detailed maps and 3D diagrams help explain how Alexander used feints and deception to transport a select force from his army across the swollen River Hydaspes without attracting the enemy’s attention, allowing his troops the crucial element of surprise. Battlescene artworks and photographs reveal the fascinating array of forces that clashed in the battle, including Indian war elephants and chariots, and horse archers and phalanx formations. Also examined are the differences in weaponry and armour between the opposing sides, which would prove crucial to the outcome. Although a tactical masterpiece, the Hydaspes was the closest that Alexander the Great came to defeat, and was one of the costliest battles fought by his near-exhausted army. 1 vol, 96 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$25.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $21.25 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() 251 THE US MARINE CORPS 1775-1859: Continental and United States Marines Describes and illustrates US Marine Corps’ uniforms, personal equipment, insignia, and weaponry, complemented by a succinct history of the Marines’ military record from their beginnings to the eve of the American Civil War, by which time the US Marine Corps had established itself as a small but vitally important part of the United States’ armed forces. Organized in 1775, the first American Marines distinguished themselves throughout the American Revolutionary War, and even raided mainland Britain before being disbanded in 1783. Reestablished in 1798, the US Marine Corps fought in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, both at sea and on land. The years after 1815 saw the Corps involved in a wide variety of conflicts, from the Seminole Wars to the Mexican-American War; Marines even reached China and Japan. As the prospect of civil war began to threaten the United States, a small battalion of Marines was responsible for the capture of abolitionist John Brown at Harper’s Ferry on October 18, 1859. 1 vol, 64 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$21.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $17.85 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() CHURCHILL MASTER AND COMMANDER: Winston Churchill at War 1895-1945 An engaging and detailed study of Winston Churchill’s career as a military commander, from his early experiences in Britain’s colonial wars, through his battlefield experience in World War I, to his strategic command in World War II. This book examines how in high office he got it both right and wrong. From his earliest days Winston Churchill was an extreme risk taker and he carried this into adulthood. Today he is widely hailed as Britain’s greatest wartime leader and politician. Deep down though, he was foremost a warlord. Just like his ally Stalin, and his arch enemies Hitler and Mussolini, Churchill could not help himself and insisted on personally directing the strategic conduct of World War II. For better or worse he insisted on being political master and military commander. Again like his wartime contemporaries, he had a habit of not heeding the advice of his generals. The results of this were disasters in Norway, North Africa, Greece, and Crete during 1940-41. His fruitless Dodecanese campaign in 1943 also ended in defeat. Churchill’s pig-headedness over supporting the Italian campaign in defiance of the Riviera landings culminated in him threatening to resign and bring down the British Government. Yet on occasions he got it just right, his refusal to surrender in 1940, the British miracle at Dunkirk, and victory in the Battle of Britain, showed that he was a much-needed decisive leader. Nor did he shy away from difficult decisions, such as the destruction of the French Fleet to prevent it falling into German hands and his subsequent war against Vichy France. In this fascinating new book, acclaimed historian Anthony Tucker-Jones explores the record of Winston Churchill as a military commander, assessing how the military experiences of his formative years shaped him for the difficult military decisions he took in office. This book assesses his choices in the some of the most controversial and high-profile campaigns of World War II, and how in high office his decision making was both right and wrong. 1 vol, 384 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$20.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $17.00 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() THE PATTERN: The 33rd Regiment in the American Revolution 1770-1783 Regimental history of the 33rd Foot during the Revolutionary War. In the early 1770s, the 33rd Foot acquired a reputation as the best-trained regiment in the British Army. This reputation would be tested beyond breaking point over the course of the American Revolutionary War. From Saratoga to South Carolina, the 33rd was one of the most heavily-engaged units – on either side – throughout the war. Includes 4 b/w illustrations, 22 b/w photos, 2 color illustrations, 18 color photos, 8pp color plates, 15 maps, 2 tables, and 4 graphs. The 33rd’s rise to prominence stemmed from its colonel, Charles, Earl Cornwallis, who took over in 1766. In a period where senior officers wielded huge influence over their own regiments, Cornwallis proved to be the best kind of commander. Diligent and meticulous, he focussed on improving the 33rd in every regard, from drills and field exercises to the quality of the unit’s weapons and clothing. The 33rd subsequently became known as the ‘pattern’ for the army, the unit on which other successful regiments were based. Prior to the outbreak of fighting in the American colonies in 1775, the 33rd’s abilities, particularly in new light infantry drills, were frequently praised. At one point they even assisted in training the elite regiments of the Foot Guards. 1 vol, 274 pgs 2023 UK, HELION AND COMPANY NEW-dj, available early May 2023…..$45.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $38.25 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() THE SOUTH AMERICAN PACIFIC WAR: Nationalism, Nitrates, Gunboats, and Guano, 1879-1881 Peru and Bolivia were decisively beaten by Chile during the War of the Pacific, 1879-1884 and as a direct consequence of this humiliating defeat they suffered extensive territorial losses, including the entire Bolivian coastline. The territories lost contained valuable nitrate and guano deposits, which were exploited by Chile, at a most fortuitous time for the rapidly-degenerating Chilean economy. includes 21 b/w photos and 12 maps. Examines the social structure, political institutions, and economies of the three nations and then analyzes the external political and diplomatic strategies of each nation as well as the growing role played by the European powers (principally Great Britain) and the USA. It shows how the interlinked diplomatic strategies and economic objectives brought conflict ever – closer, and ultimately made it all but inevitable. Next, describes the military capabilities of the three nations involved, including the navies. The last two parts of the book chart the progress of the war through two basic phases: Chilean occupation of the Bolivian littoral and town of Antofagasta and the subsequent naval campaigns, and Chilean land invasion of Peru that resulted in the capture of the capital, Lima. 1 vol, 176 pgs 2023 UK, HELION AND COMPANY NEW-pb, available late May 2023…..$50.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $42.50 …here in 2-4 weeks |

<![if !vml]>![]() THE HUNGARIAN WAR OF INDEPENDENCE 1848-1849: An Illustrated Military History Examines the Hungarian revolution and war of independence of 1848-1849 as it transitions from a feudal system to a civic society. All of this happened as part of a wider European revolutionary process in which Hungarian and international events were in constant interaction. The movement towards German and Italian unity, the attempt to create a unified Poland, and the efforts to federalize the Habsburg Empire all influenced developments within Hungary and vice versa. Includes 150 b/w illustrations, 50 color illustrations, and 25 maps. The revolution and war of independence was an experience shared by the entire population. Hundreds of thousands served in the military and the national guard, attended elections, endured the difficulties caused by the movements of armies, and suffered the horrors of war. <![if !vml]>![]() THE LAST BATTLE OF WINCHESTER: Phil Sheridan, Jubal Early, and the Shenandoah Valley Campaign, August 7 – September 19, 1864 Dissects the five weeks of complex maneuvering and sporadic combat before the opposing armies ended up at Winchester, an important town in the northern end of the Valley that had changed hands dozens of times during the war. Tactical brilliance and ineptitude were on display throughout the day-long affair as Sheridan threw infantry and cavalry against the thinning Confederate ranks, and Early and his generals shifted to meet each assault. A final blow against Early’s left flank collapsed the Southern army, killed one of the Confederacy’s finest combat generals in Robert Rodes, and planted the seeds of the sweeping large-scale victory at Cedar Creek the following month. Includes 81 illustrations and 22 maps. The fighting began about daylight and did not end until dusk, when the victorious Union army routed the Confederates off the field. It was the first time Stonewall Jackson’s former corps had ever been driven from a battlefield, and the stinging defeat set the stage for the final climax of the 1864 Valley Campaign at Fisher’s Hill and Cedar Creek. <![if !vml]>![]() THE ONE-SHIP FLEET: USS Boise – WWII Naval Legend 1938-45 Full history of the Brooklyn-class light cruiser USS Boise (CL-47), which was awarded 11 battle stars in WWII — more than any other light cruiser in her class. She participated in the naval battles in the Solomons in 1942. After repairs and modifications, the Boise was sent in 1943 to the Mediterranean theater to participate in the invasions of Sicily, Taranto, and Salerno. She enhanced her fame by destroying enemy tanks during armored counterattacks in both Sicily and Salerno. From the Mediterranean, Boise was sent to the Southwest Pacific theater to join the US 7th Fleet for the campaign in New Guinea in 1943-44 and then the invasion of the Philippines. She fought in the battle of Leyte Gulf, notably in the night engagement in the Surigao Strait, where battleships faced off against each other for the last time in maritime history. Boise was credited with helping to sink a Japanese battleship. She also fought off the suicide planes known as kamikazes at Leyte and later at Lingayen Gulf during the invasion of Luzon. MacArthur used her as his flagship for the Luzon attack, thereby adding to her already considerable fame, then after helping retake Corregidor and other islands in the Philippines, Boise carried the general on a triumphant tour of the islands. This tour was interrupted for the invasion of Borneo, but completed when the beach was secured. After MacArthur left the ship in June 1945, she ended the war in the US for an overhaul. 1 vol, 304 pgs 2023 US, CASEMATE NEW-pb, available early May 2023…..$38.00 OMM Discount 15%: Now $32.30 …here in 2-4 weeks |
